Slab doors have the widest range of selection when compared with other door styles. They come in countless colours and textures as well as being available in matt and gloss finishes. Slab doors are modern, minimalist, and contemporary. Popularised in the 1920s as part of an in-frame style, later being adapted to the full overlay cabinets we think of today. While slab doors are a go to when planning an ultra-modern kitchen, this style can also work in kitchens that takes inspiration from the past. The extensive range of colours means that by picking a vibrant shade of yellow, a bubble-gum pink, or a spearmint green, your dream 1930s kitchen can become a reality or by opting for a wood grain affect with minimal black or wooden handles, a mid-century modern masterpiece can be made.

Slab doors also have the advantage of coming in a wide range of textures including wood, stone, concrete, and metal effect. These textures can easily be mixed and matched with plain coloured doors or used all on their own. Textured doors are a unique way to add a level of depth to your kitchen that a flat matt door can’t.

Adding a handle to a high gloss door reduces the amount of contact with dirty hands minimising the number of fingerprints. This is often seen as one of the major draw backs for picking a handless kitchen especially when picking a door in a darker colour. To maintain a modern style with a slab door, you might want to select a handle with a slim profile or rear fixed finger pull handles. These handles sit flush with the top of the door available in not only a range of colours and metallic finishes, but also in a selection of shapes and sizes. Finger pull handles often are very minimalistic but come with more ornate detailing. A benefit of these handles is that they are easier to replace over time. Usually if you wish to replace your handles, it is important to choose new handles that are the same length as your original handles making use of the holes previously drilled into your door fronts. With rear fixed handles, there are no holes left on the front of your door making it easier to select new handles later.

A matt slab door is a great way of achieving a contemporary kitchen design, without breaking the bank, they are good at concealing marks that result from daily life especially with pets and children. In spite of the fact that a matt door is better at concealing imperfections, it is slightly harder the clean in comparison to a gloss door.

Arguably, a matt texture door is the strongest contender in its ability to hide stains and smudges. This is due to these doors being harder to clean as many options have a slight grain to them meaning removing spills and splashes might require some extra elbow grease.
