Handleless doors just as their name suggests requiring no handles, and therefore is the perfect choice for a sleek and modern kitchen design. Handleless kitchens come in a few different forms and which one you pick will be determined by budget and personal preference.
The first type is handleless door with handles that are recessed into the door most often this is seen as the very popular J-pull style where the handle is moulded into the top of the door in a J-shape allowing for you to easily open your cabinets. This style of door is not always suitable for everyone most notably anyone who may have weak finger strength or mobility. To work out whether this style is suitable, it is important to look at the thickness of the door, many brands will carry a cheap J-pull style in an 18mm thick door leaving very little room for your fingers to grip on to instead, opt for a 22mm thick door to ensure the ergonomics are up to great standard.
A less well-known design feature is a handle handgrip design that is recessed into the front of the door, constructed with one piece, eliminating the additional cost of adding hardware.
Inset handles can be located along the top or on the front of your cabinet door, styles that require an inset handle on the face of the door do not require an additional handle rail along the top edge of your cabinets. Styles of cabinets that have a concealed or semi concealed inset handle in combination with a handrail function almost identically to a true handleless system.
The handle rail of a true handleless system allows your finger to slot in behind the top of the door typically a l shape design the handles rail creates a channel just below the top edge of the door to hook your fingers into. Handlesless styles particularly true handless systems have been increasingly popular as it allows for a seamless and minimalistic finish to your kitchen handrail colours can vary to be discretely camouflaged or create a statement. The channels also allow for extra lighting to be placed just below your worktop for a soft illumination.
Although very popular, some people are put off by the extra cleaning required with handleless kitchens, if you have chosen a high gloss finish remember that finger marks will almost always be visible, and dust and crumbs will regularly have to be swept out of the channels created by the finger rails.
