Kitchen Lighting - Where Do I Start?
Lighting plays an important role in the aesthetics of any part of your house. In the kitchen, lighting needs to be considered for aesthetics but also for practical use.
There are three main types of lighting for you to consider:
1.Ambient lighting
This is your general lighting that illuminates the room that will interact with everything on show so it’s important to get this right. Natural light also falls into ambient lighting so you’ll need to consider the light coming in from outside and how this changes with the weather, seasons and position of the sun throughout the day.
2.Accent lighting
This is the light you use to accentuate features and draw attention to objects in the room. Used sparingly, this light can be subtle but add a lot of character to your kitchen.
3.Task lighting
Task lighting is very important in a kitchen space as it illuminates areas where specific tasks will be undertaken. The most obvious example would be a food preparation surface. This type of lighting is often downward facing and focused specifically on an area.
All three types of lighting come together to create the overall look and feel of your kitchen space. Consider how your lighting will work at different times of day and in a range of kitchen uses. Task lighting will be far more important whilst preparing food whereas serving impressive dishes to guests will rely on adequate ambient lighting.
