The appeal of granite, like marble, is that is mined from pure stone. This added element of luxury creates high demand for granite surfaces in luxury and high end residential as well as commercial projects.  Granite has the benefit of being extremely long lasting when taken care of correctly. Granite requires sealing regularly to maintain a protective barrier between the porous stone and any spills that may occur during general daily use.

Being a natural material, granite is a matrix of mineral crystals that interlock with different minerals. This creates a worktop that is unique in the distribution of the worktops pattern due to the variation in minerals in each area. This can be seen in areas with less defined veining.

Abrasives and harsh everyday cleaning products should be avoided when caring for granite as they can compromise the sealant layer, making your worktop vulnerable to staining and bacterial growth.

Granite worktops can differ in their resistance to heat, scratching and staining due to the variation in mineral makeup and inclusions of softer types of rock. This means that is it always better to be cautious around placing hot pans on your worktop or cutting foods without a cutting board. In cases where your worktop can resist damage from cutting directly on it, it is important to continue to utilise a cutting board as it could dull your knives over time.
