Although Corian is a brand, it has become synonymous with all solid surface worktops. These solid surface worktops are sometimes referred to as acrylic worktops. Corian, like quartz is a mix of natural stone and resin. However, Corian is made up of, on average, around 1/3 less stone than quartz. Considering quartz is typically made of 95%, Corian is still made up of a considerable amount of natural stone.
Corian and other solid surfaces tend to come in a wider range of patterns and colours compared to quartz allowing for more versatile kitchen designs while continuing to be easy to clean and waterproof. Due to Corian being less densely packed with stone, it is a softer surface that is more prone to scratching, however it is still considerably stronger that its natural counterparts including marble. Minor damages can easily be polished out to give your worktops a new lease of life.
Due to the number of different acrylic composite worktop manufacturers, the thickness can vary, typically ranging from 12-20mm thick and often come with matching up stands and splashbacks.
Corian like most natural and synthetic solid surface worktops are not extremely chemical resistant, therefore it is advised to avoid using harsh chemicals such as bleach.
